Frequently Ask Questions

Toughened glass is the most common type of glass used in partitioning. This glass is taken through a heating process to toughen it, making it four to five times stronger and more durable than annealed glass. When a toughened glass panel is broken, it should break into small bits rather than large sharp shards. For this reason, it's commonly referred to as safety glass.

There are many good reasons to use glass partitions in offices as well as homes, glass partitioning:
Improves space and light Solid walls can block light and reduce the sense of space. However, due to its' clear, transparent quality, glass allows for the free flow of light and will not make a room look small or tight.

Improves the functionality of a space There is a wide range of options available, meaning that your space can be functional as well as beautiful. There are glass partition systems specifically manufactured to reduce noise levels, increase privacy and offer a level of protection in a fire (fire-rated or ceramic glass).
It makes a space look beautiful or elegant Glass walls are not heavy on the eye and are virtually conspicuous. Glass doors and glazing tracks can be purchased in various styles and colours. You can also add custom film or frosting to glass partitions to suit any interior design and taste.

Increases privacy:
A level of noise reduction is possible when using acoustic glass and double glazed partition systems.

Reduces costs and maintenance:
Glass partitions for offices can often be re-used by deglazing, adjusting and moving glass screens. They can also be installed from scratch relatively quickly. Once installed, glass partition walls require little maintenance. Glass can be easily wiped clean. If needed, panels can be replaced with little hassle - unlike traditional walls that will require repainting when dirty or re-plastering when damaged.

Single-glazed walls are comprised of a single layer of glass. Most single glazed partitions are frameless (glass panels are separated by clear joints, as opposed to aluminium mullions) and can have a minimal look; this may offer a more aesthetically pleasing appeal and a contemporary feel.

Double glazed walls and double glazed doors comprise two layers of glass. Depending on the partition system used, the glass panels can be framed or frameless. Double glazed walls are typically used where sound reduction and privacy are essential. Some double glazed frame systems allow for internal blinds (installed between two layers of glass), providing additional privacy.

Costs will largely depend on the size and specification of the glass walls. Double glazed partitions are more expensive than single. You also need to consider installation costs (not just the materials). The type of doors and ironmongery you decide to use can significantly impact glass partition costs. Ironmongery is essentially door accessories such as hinges, door handles and locks.

Deciding on the types of door you need depends on what you want to achieve with your glass partitioning project and your budget. For example, if privacy and noise reduction is essential to you, you may want to consider double glazed doors with acoustic reduction. However, if you're going to reduce costs, single glazed doors (or door leaves) may be the best option for you.
